Week 1 - April 6th to 12th 1998

April 6th If you get the chance to see the new terminal at Paris's Charles DeGaulle 2 airport, see it. It is a non-70s concrete masterpiece in a stressed cable/plastic world... Finally I have found a reason for visiting France other than to change planes (although this of course can be done at the same time).
One thing that did worry me whilst being transported by the Airport bus at CDG2 was watching my luggage travelling in the opposite direction.
On the Airbus to Toronto I was surprised to be sat with a family from Reading. Just goes to show that you can go anywhere in the world, but Reading will always find and haunt you.
Upon arrival at Pearson International, I was pleased to discover my suitcase, - thanks Melissa, your 2 dollars got me a trolly (deposit refundable of course) - and met my cousin immediately after exiting the airport.
April 7th I thought I'd take today easily, so I took a short walk to find the cornerstore. I found a main road with some bus stops on it - useful, but failed to find the store (at this point my dandruff cheers).
Having walked all around the block, I started to get this freaky feeling that I was on the set of 'Degrassi Street' (in actual fact about 25km away - the photos will be published here as soon as I get there), and so had to return to the sanctity of the house !
April 8th I was very lazy and did very little today. We did go to Tuckers Market Place where I watched Alysse and Kaitlyn demolish platefuls of pasta and then got a power cable for my lovely laptop.
April 9th I have discovered where I went wrong on Tuesday. In order to get to the corner store, one has to take the bus...Well almost.
I had fun today using the TTC bus and Subway discovering Toronto's suburbs (I kept catching the right bus but on the wrong side of the street - why do these people insist on driving on the right). A note to travellers - remember to get a transfer as this will let you travel practically anywhere for $2 - I didn't.
After asking at Coffee, Tea or Me (a short walk east from the junction of Lawrence and Warden) where they were really helpful, and the food looked good, but I couldn't stop because the goal was in my sights I finally found the Electric Bean - a cybercafe where I couldn't upload these pages but could at least check my email.
April 10th I found a programme on the Speed channel that was at Silverstone (Hi Matt) and commentated by Murray Walker (home sweet home). I'm realising that my difficulty will be on Sunday trying to find the Grand Prix at 12:00.
April 11th Janet took me along to a party today which was a lot of fun, and (thanks to 3 other brits being there) allowed me to get up to date with the footie results :)
It also allowed me to make the discovery that Canadian beer is not as bad as the rest of the world makes out.
April 12th What a sad pathetic person I am - I travel half way around the world and get in a sweat trying to find the Argentinian Grand Prix (12.00 The Sports Network, identical - Murray Walker - feed as ITV back home).
